In light of Tony Blair`s comments this week, our advice is to echo his words in that all people within the UK need to wake up with regards to energy supplies, particularly of gas, and the enormous problems our country is facing regarding future gas supplies. You may find it useful to go to the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) site www.dti.gov.uk/energy and see for yourself, but to quote from the Energy White Paper "the 2nd challenge is the decline of the UK`s indigineous energy supplies and by 2006 we will be a net IMPORTER of gas" This country has not been a net importer of gas since the North Sea fields were found over 30 years ago, so if you were wondering why gas prices were going up so sharply this is the reason. Are prices likely to stabilise? Hardly, our supplies are not secure, with increasing amounts having to be imported from Gazprom in Russia and other companies in the Middle East, two areas of the world not known for their stability. This is further reinforced by the White Paper "we may become vulnerable to price fluctuations and interruptions to supply " This is not some fanciful thinking, this is the Government issuing the warning.

DOESN`T IT MAKE SENSE TO HARNESS IT.............

Following extensive research into the various forms of solar heating, we at Skyreach, have opted to market and distribute the evacuated tube system which is recognised throughout the industry as by far the most efficient for providing year round hot water with heating support. In fact, the round tube vacuum technology was awarded the gold medal at the 1987 Geneva International Inventor Fair and has been continually improved since to the point where we now have a 93% solar absorption efficiency. "OK, I have seen the panels in B & Q and they are not vacuum, they are Flat Plate, so what is so special about vacuum tubes?" This is a question that is now being asked very regularly so we thought we would address it on the website. It is a good question as to most of the public, solar panels are all the same. The answer is simple and is the same reason the heat from the sun stays hot even though it travels more than 100 million miles to reach us. Space is a virtual vacuum and because a vacuum is the best insulator possible (within practical applications) little heat is lost as it travels that incredible distance. Similarly a vacuum is necessary in a solar panel, particularly in colder climates, such as ours, so that as the solar energy is transferred to heat within the tube very little heat is able to escape through conduction and convection. This enables a vacuum solar panel to work as efficiently on a bright day in winter as it will during the rest of the year. This cannot be said of a Flat Plate non vacuum panel, as if the ambient air temperature is lower than the panel it will take the heat away, a bit like having a radiator on your roof in Winter, not very efficient at all. The second reason is to have spherical tubes as opposed to flat glass (plate) so as to maximise solar absorption as the sun arcs overhead. OK some people think they are not as aesthetic as flat plates (debatable) but they more than make up for it in enhanced efficiency. It really is quite simple, if you want an efficient solar thermal system you have to choose vacuum panels.
