So, how much will it cost me?

As with all things, there are quite a few different options with solar installations, whether you have a conversion (opp picture), if your existing cylinder is large enough and well insulated, which is the cheapest option, or we can install a twin coil solar cylinder or a thermal store to name a few. The Department of Trade and Industry figures show the average price for a basic fitted vacuum tube solar thermal system with a new cylinder to be over £6,000. By negotiating directly with the manufacturer we have been able to cut out various lines of distributorship and middlemen, thereby drastically reducing these costs, without compromising on quality. In fact our product specification is amongst the highest in the country and remember there is a 10 year manufacturers warranty on our solar tubes.

DIY KIT

This system utilises the existing hot water cylinder (if it is in a good condition) by replacing the immersion heater coil with a copper retro fit valve (similar to a Surrey flange see picture opposite). It is a straightforward operation and is within the capabilities of a competent DIYer. This is a potable water system and therefore requires more expensive components including a bronze bearing pump, however, there are minimal maintenance issues, which is a big advantage over pressurised systems. All things considered this is probably the most efficient system in the country for those not wishing to go to the expense of installing a new solar cylinder.

Parts and components for a 15 tube, Retro Fit Conversion Flange installation;

1x 15 evacuated tube panel - 1.8m x 58mm tubes

1x Frame kit

4x 22mm x 3/4" MI Brass compression fittings

1x 10m Length of stainless steel flexi pipe - no copper pipework. Other lengths of ss pipe can be supplied pre-cut to order, otherwise you will need a flange tool (see accessories for price) if you are to cut it yourself

10m of high temperature insulation

** Also strongly recommended - A Hydroflow water conditioner, please add £125 + vat. Calcification is a problem in all hard water areas and will adversely effect a solar hot water system just the same as scale accumulating in your kettle. For our 10 year guarantee to be valid a Hydroflow or similar MUST be fitted to the system.
